Portrait and biographical record, Leavenworth, KS, published in Chicago in 1899 says "Wellington Y. Leonard, son of James W. and Julia Henshaw, born October 5, 1834, native of Rutland VT and Philadelphia; his grandfather Joseph Leonard member of New England pioneer family spent his entire life in VT except when in Revolutionary Army. For some years James W. was foreman of iron works at Phoenixville, PA and Troy, Ohio, in 1851, then Albion, OH, where he died. Wellington went to Zenia, OH, to study to become an architect. His health necessitated his return home. He then studied medicine in the office of Dr. D. W. C. Downey, later at Jefferson Medical College, Cincinnatti Medical College, and Rush Medical School in Chicago. He became the surgeon for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad at Albion, OH. In the 1900 Census, he was living in Lawrence, Douglas Co., KS, with his family. Was his father James or Joseph? Also noted: tendency to get the children of this family mixed up with those back in Vermont. He did not die in 1871 in Albion, OH.
