He died on 16 May 1894 at the age of 64 in Chicago, Cook Co., IL. He was a surgeon. He settled in Ovid, MI. He was a surgeon for the 27 Michigan Volunteer Infantry in 1864. His mother dying when he was but two years of age he was sent to live with a friend of the family, Mr. Warriner King, with whom he remained nearly twelve years and was then thrown upon his own resources for a livelihood. He found employment, at small remuneration at first, worked hard, saved his earnings, going to school a part of the time, and in October 1857, entered the medical department of the University of Michigan, where he remained through his Junior Course, afterwards continuing his studies with a preceptor until 1862, when he entered the Medical Institute of Cincinnati, Ohio, from which he received his degree the following year. In January 1864, he was made contract surgeon to the 27th Michigan Infantry. After his return he resided in Ovid, Michigan where he practiced his profession. Edwin Silas LEONARD and Lydia BEALS were married about 1849 in MA. Lydia BEALS was born about 1847 in MA. Edwin Silas LEONARD and Lydia BEALS had the following children:
Edwin Silas LEONARD and Harriet DANFORTH were married about 1859 in MI. Harriet DANFORTH, daughter of Justin DANFORTH and Delilah BEALS, was born in 1834 in Columbus, Warren Co., PA. She died on 10 March 1916 at the age of 82 in Chicago, Cook Co., IL. She separated from Edwin sometime between the 1870 and 1880 Censuses.
