3138. Ira Dewitt LEONARD²⁸⁶² was born about 1835 in Fairhaven, Rutland Co., VT. They lived in Brattleboro, VT. He was a newspaper publisher. In the 1860 Census, he was a job printer. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he organized a cavalry company. He started his publishing business in his father's parlor. In 1882 he built the Leonard block on Elliot Street, Brattleboro. He carried on his newspaper and publishing business from 1875 until his death.

Was he Ira Dewitt Leonard or Edward Dewitt Leonard? GML has the latter and lists him as #2758. GML lists his son, #3361, as marrying Cora Baker.

Ira Dewitt LEONARD and Cora Genevieve BAKER were married about 1877. Cora Genevieve BAKER, daughter of William BAKER and Mary A. , was born on 19 March 1853 in MA. She died on 3 April 1929 at the age of 76 in Windham Co, VT.
