He died on 16 June 1825 at the age of 42 in Deerfield, Warren Co, OH. He and Catherine moved to Vergennes, Addison Co., VT, shortly after marrying. He lived in Addison Co, VT in 1810, moved to Ohio in 1813. He witnessed will of uncle David Leonard in 1805. He bought land of Piercy Kitchell in 1814. See note under Moses Kitchel. LEONARD and Catherine KITCHEL were married on 8 September 1803 in Hanover, Morris Co., NJ.1333 Catherine KITCHEL1333, daughter of William KITCHEL and Margaret COOK, was born on 9 June 1783 in Hanover twp., Morris Co., NJ. She died on 8 November 1869 at the age of 86 in Potter Valley, Mendocino Co., CA. She was the granddaughter of Moses' first cousin Obediah Kitchel. ECL-GML have her parents as Obadiah Kitchell and Sarah Reynolds. Obituary from Ukiah, CA, newspaper, 11-12-1869: "Died--in Potter Valley, Nov. 8th. of paralysis, Mrs. Catherine Leonard, aged 86 years and 11 months. The subject of this notice was born near Morristown, Essex Co., New Jersey, and was the eldest of ten children--six girls and four boys. In 1802 she abandoned her maiden names of Kitchell and was married to John Leonard, soon afterwards moving to Vermont on Lake Champlain near the mouth of the Onion River. In 1813 the young couple moved to Ohio, locating near Cincinnati, then but a village not as large as Ukiah (CA). In 1825 she was left a widow withseven children, four of whom are still living to mourn her loss. In 1844 she went with her children to Indiana; then, in 1856, she accompanied three of her daughters to Kansas. In 1865 herson, John Leonard of Healdsburg,brought her to this state, since which time she has resided with her daughters in Potter Valley, Mrs. Sam. Mcwhinney and Mrs. Thomas McCowen. For 23 years a wife, 44 years a widow, and 65 years a mother, her life has been one of unceasing care and usefulness. Ever genial and kindly, sympathing with the your, encouraing and counselling the middle-aged, mourning with the aged, every one of her numerous family found in her the gentle voice, the comfort, none else could give. In Nevada are living the second, third, and fourth generations of her descendants; in this county are three generations. In coming to this State she visited her brothers and sisters in New Jersey, whom she had not seen for 52 years..." John B. LEONARD and Catherine KITCHEL had the following children:
