4182. Helen M. LEONARD was born on 30 May 1845 in Niagara Co., NY. She died in 1923 at the age of 78. She compiled the genealogical information on this branch of the Leonard family, along with Jefferson Leonard and Lois Leonard Badger. Sometime around 1870, she filled an old ledger with notes about the family from interviews and from old family Bibles.

William EDWINS was born on 10 March 1847 in Munroe Co., NY. William never knew his parents, left at an orphanage as a small baby. At three he was taken in by the Benjamin K. Wheeler family.

He enlisted 9 Feb 1864 in Co. K, 6th Michigan Cavalry. He fought at Yellow Tavern, Meadow Ridge, Milford, Haw's Shop, Baltimore Crossroads,Cold Harbor, Trevallian Station, Summit Point, Opequan, Luray, Port Republic, Mount Crawford, Woodstock, and Sailors Creek. He was present at Appomattox when Gen. Lee surrendered. He later served in Kansas and Utah. He was wounded at Little Blue, NE.

They lived in Sunfield, MI.
