He was a soldier in the Civil War. He enlisted in time to participate in the ill-fated raid on Richmond, VA, which became known as Kilpatrick's raid. The Union forces were routed by the Confederates and managed to escape back to Washington by ship. He later fought in the Battle of the Wilderness and was present at Appomatox Court House when the peace was signed. He was shipped with his unit to Powder River, WY, after the War and saw limited action in fighting the Indians. He was discharged in 1865 at Salt Lake City and returned to Battle Creek, MI, where he lived the rest of his life. Angivine LEONARD and Harriet INMAN were married in Battle Creek, Calhoun Co., MI.
