He died on 7 August 1827 at the age of 70 in Fairhaven, Rutland Co., VT. Gamaliel was a private in Capt. Phillip King's company, Col. George Williams' 3rd Bristol County regiment, 1776, and saw service in Boston and at Fort Ticonderoga. He removed to Lenox, MA, worked at a forge there, then to Pittsfield, then to Greensfield (now Hampton Mills), NY, then to Fairhaven, VT. In January 1786, he bought 120 acres of land and erected a saw mill. In 1788, with Elias Stevens and Daniel Arnold, he erected a forge. He was a selectman at Fairhaven in 1811.
