Fourth Generation

280. Jacob LEONARD365 was born in 1716 in Norton, Bristol Co., MA. He died on 14 March 1743 at the age of 27 in Norton, Bristol Co., MA.366
William Leonard of Taunton sold to his son Jacob 34 1/2 acres in Norton December 16, 1740.

Jacob Leonard sold his farm in Norton to John Wilde (his father-in-law?) January (?) 13, 1742. This would have been shortly before he died.

Since he died while his children were so young, there should be a court action to establish their guardianship.

The name Jacob ran in the Barney family.

Jacob LEONARD and Mary WILDE were married on 12 October 1737 in Taunton, Bristol Co., MA.367 Mary WILDE132, daughter of John WILDE and Abigail BASS, was born on 22 July 1721 in Braintree, Norfolk Co., MA.366 She died about 1786 at the age of 65 in Woodstock, CT. Was she born July 22, 1721 in Braintree or 1718 in Norton? ECL says Darius H. Leonard said on June 24, 1888, she married 2nd a Clark, and that is borne out by the Norton VR's. She was a Mayflower descendant of John Alden through her mother.

Note that her children by Jacob were young when he died. Were they raised with her children by Seth Clark?

A widow, Mary Leonard, was admitted to the Norton Church in 1743.

ECL: did she also marry (3) Seth John Hall in 1764? Answer seems to be "no;" she was alive for land transactions in 1783 in Woodstock, CT. Her son, John Clark, gave life use of the family homestead to "his honored parents Seth and Mary Clark."
