He died on 24 December 1749 at the age of 47 in Raynham, Bristol Co., MA.47 He was buried in Town Center Cemetery, Raynham, MA.60 He lived near Raynham Forge and owned a half of it. He took over the Raynham Forge when his father died. After he died, Elijah Leonard took over and got the forge heavily in debt, causing it finally to be sold to the Deans. He was also known as Samuel Leonard, 2nd. He was elected town clerk of Raynham in 1731. ECL/GML list a son Apollos b. 3 Aug 1744, #209. But this Apollos was the son of Zephaniah and Hannah Leonard (See Margaret Stover Harris, Vital Records of Raynham, 1997, p. 18). Also, baptism record, Church of Christ, Raynham, Apollos, son of Major Zephaniah Leonard was baptized. No record of Samuel having a son Apollos has been found. Capt. Samuel LEONARD and Abigail SHAW were married on 16 February 1727 in Raynham, Bristol Co., MA.201 Abigail SHAW65, daughter of Benjamin SHAW and Hannah BICKNELL, was born in 1707 in Taunton, Bristol Co., MA. She died on 27 February 1793 at the age of 86 in Raynham, Bristol Co., MA.202 She was buried in Town Center Cemetery, Raynham, MA.60 Capt. Samuel LEONARD and Abigail SHAW had the following children:
