1604. Heman LEONARD1697 was born on 30 April 1812 in Parma, Monroe Co., NY. He died on 21 February 1884 at the age of 71 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI. He was buried in Fulton Street Cemetery, Kent Co., Michigan. Davis Family genealogy lists his birth date as April 30, 1818. Heman or Herman?

ECL: He was a manufacturer. He established the Leonard Refrigerator, later bought by Kelvinator Co.

Elaine Leonard: Heman was at home one day and the maid spilled oil on the ice box. No matter how she scrubbed, she could not get the stain out of the ice box. Heman went to his workshop and made a refrigerator. He named it the Leonard Cleanable. He began to manufacture refrigerators. The name of his shop was H. Leonard and Sons, on the corner of Commerce and Fulton Streets. After some years he sold the patent to Sears for over a million dollars.

He settled in Grand Rapids in 1846 and lived to see the former Indian trading post become a modern city.

Heman LEONARD and Maria GOODRICH were married about 1835 in MI. Maria GOODRICH died on 26 June 1842.

Heman LEONARD and Jane A. GOODRICH were married on 10 September 1845 in St. Joseph Co., MI. Jane A. GOODRICH was born on 18 April 1823 in Green River, Columbia Co., NY. She died on 25 December 1862 at the age of 39 in Grand Rapids, Kent Co., MI. She was buried in Fulton Street Cemetery, Kent Co., Michigan.
