2708. Charles Ellis LEONARD2536 was born on 10 June 1830 in Middleborough, Plymouth Co, MA. He was buried in Nemasket Hill Cemetery, Middleboro, MA. In the 1850 Census, Charles was 16, living with his family, and a shoemaker. In the 1880 Census, the family was living in Middleborough, where Charles E. was engaged in shoe manufacture.

"In 1853 Noah C. Perkins, Charles E. Leonard, and Horatio Barrows occupied the building later known as T. W. Peirce's store. In 1850 this firm was dissolved, and Leonard & Barrows formed a partnership in the Wells Block. In 1862 C. D. Kingman joined the firm for a short time. In 1883, Mr. Barrows died, and since then the business has been carried on by Mr. Leonard with his sons, C. M. (Charles Melvin) Leonard and A. H. (Arthur Holmes) Leonard under the same firm name of Leonard & Barrows. They employ about six hundred operatives and have a branch factory in Belfast, ME." Weston, "History of the Town of Middleboro," 1905, p. 296. He and his sons were also on the board of directors of the Middleborough National Bank, organized in April 1889.

Charles Ellis LEONARD and Martha Elizabeth HOLMES were married on 23 November 1857 in Middleborough, Plymouth Co, MA.71 Martha Elizabeth HOLMES, daughter of Richard B. HOLMES and Lydia THOMAS, was born on 31 October 1835 in Middleborough, Plymouth Co, MA. She died on 18 June 1893 at the age of 57 in Middleborough, Plymouth Co, MA.
