1. Constant(ine) LEONARD was born about 1754 in Sussex Co., NJ. He died about 1798 at the age of 44 in Connellsville, Fayette Co., PA. Alternative: born 1754 Orange, NY or Orange, Sussex Co., NJ. Border between the two changed five or six times.

Mary E. Leonard, "Our Family History: Constant(ine) Leonard, Revolutionary Soldier and His Descendants," 1995, believes Constant was a son of Joseph Leonard and Fear Southworth, based on almost all of the female descendants of Constant Southworth named at least one of their sons Constant.

Constant is said to have been a carpenter and worked around a forge. By family tradition, he died of an injury sustained while working at the forge in Sussex Co., NJ. He died on the banks of the Youghiogheny River near Connellsville, PA, while the family was migrating via flat boat to Ohio in 1798.

Constant(ine) LEONARD and Elizabeth HAMILTON were married about 1774. Elizabeth HAMILTON was born about 1756 in Sussex Co., NJ. She died on 2 February 1813 at the age of 57 in Limber Green, Fayette Co., PA. She died at the home of her son, Benjamin.

Constant(ine) LEONARD and Elizabeth HAMILTON had the following children:

Stephen LEONARD was born in 1775 in Sussex Co., NJ. He died after 1860 at the age of 85 in Dayton, Delaware Co., OH. No further info found on Stephen. He never married.

William LEONARD was born in 1791 in Sussex Co., NJ. He died on 10 September 1813 at the age of 22 in Fayette Co., PA. He never married and died in the War of 1812.
